New Zealand’s Singles representative in 2008 World Bowls in Christchurch and was runner up to Malaysia’s Safuan Said. Ali showed great form in recent Tweed Prestige Open Mixed Singles and will be a strong contender again this year.  A prolific winner of major tournaments all over Australian , Carmen was awarded Queensland’s Female Representative Player of the Year and also GCTLBA Bowler of the Year. Only player to win against Salina Ahmad in 2007 Golden Nugget. Will do well again.

Now a dual Golden Nugget winner after his win last year. Steve has been runner up four times and will start favourite to win his third trophy. Always a crowd favourite Steve also knows that no male bowler has ever won consecutive Golden Nugget titles. Maybe this year will be different. 2006 Golden Nugget winner and would dearly love to win again. Won 2007 Queensland State Singles and is a current member of national ladies squad

Recent inclusion in National Squad, Mark has played over 400 matches for Victoria and top skip in strong NSW Premier League. A former Commonwealth Gold Medalist and Victorian Champion of Champions singles winner, Mark will make his presence felt – say no more     Jo performed well in Golden Nugget last year and won the World Bowls Pairs Gold Medal in Christchurch this year with team mate Val Smith. Jo is a proven performer and should go close this year.

Runner up in 2006, Kelvin won the Golden Nugget in 94 and 97 and would dearly love to win again. Current Australian Indoor Champion Kelvin will be in the finish and this year could be his year. Australia’s Singles representative in 2007 World Team Cup, Julie created history winning Queensland State Fours, Pairs and Singles in May this year. In form player in this tough field and will be one to beat

A regular State Representative from South Australia, Wayne has shown glimpses of his potential with some great wins and narrow losses in previous years. This may be his year as Wayne relishes playing on the quick Tweed greens. Renowned International bowler with over 900 International matched over 20 years, now settled in Victoria. Joyce played in her first Golden Nugget in 2007 and performed well without reaching the finals. Will be all out to go one better this year.

National Squad member, Anthony has always shown potential and has won Queensland State titles in Singles (05) and fours in 2008. A Queensland State representative for 10 years, Anthony represented Australian in the 2007 Trans Tasman series and should do well in this prestige tournament. Queensland State Representative and runner up in Qld State Singles. Carmen is Queensland’s Emerging Player of the year and one to watch on making her debut in Golden Nugget.

Outstanding performance on his debut in Golden Nugget last year winning all five sectional matches and a great performance against eventual winner. Mathew, youngest ever play to win NSW Open State Singles is now a member of NSW State side. Mathew will be hoping for a repeat performance and to make the final again. South Australian State Representative, Penny is South Australia’s Bowler of the Year and making her debut in Golden Nugget. Should do well and is another debutante worth watching.

.2006 Winner but could not win two in a row however Nathan, a top performer, is always a tough competitor and would not surprise if he made the finals again this year. A dark horse in this strong field. National Squad Member and runner up to world Champion Salina Ahmad on her debut in 2007 Golden Nugget. Sharyn will only need to keep this form to go one better this year.

Third last year, Wayne, a regular member of the NSW State Side has always performed well in the Golden Nugget and would not surprise if he showed up some of his more highly fancied opponents in this top field World Bowls Gold Medalist in Christchurch this year winning the Singles Gold and Pairs Gold with Jo Edwards. Val won Gold in Asia Pacific Singles in 2007 and should start favourite to win Golden Nugget. This is a tough draw but should make the finals.

NSW Bowler of the Year in 2005 & 07, Aron was Australia’s Singles representative in 2007 World Team Cup and also at World Bowls in Christchurch this year where he won the Bronze Medal. A prolific winner of major singles in NSW over the years, Aron is taking break from National squad duties and is all fired up for the Golden Nugget. Would not surprise to see him make the finals.

Queensland State Representative, Brenda has an impressive record in Australian Open events and is the current Black Douglas winner plus Tweed Master Singles for past two years. Would not surprise if Brenda make the finals in this her first year in tough Golden Nugget field.

2008 World Bowls Pairs and Fours Gold Medalist in Christchurch, Gary has played over 250 matches for New Zealand and has won numerous titles over many years. New Zealand’s in form bowler and will be hard to beat.

Gold Medalist in 2006 and current Australian Indoor Champion plus a five times winner of Golden Nugget, Karen is always a favourite and crowd pleaser on the greens. Karen came third last year and will should play on the final day again.

Mark won the coveted wildcard entry into this year’s Golden Nugget following a great performance in the Tweed Prestige Open Mixed Singles, beating some Golden Nugget entrants on the way. Mark is showing his best form in recent years and will be tough to beat going on his recent win. A high profile wildcard entrant who should go well Wildcard winner for Tweed Prestige Open Mixed Singles and member of South Tweed Bowls Club. Ann Maree has been a bowler for many years and pundits expect her to perform well and could cause a few upsets on quick greens.

Tweed Heads Ladies Bowls Club Singles Champion for 2008, Di has an outstanding record over many years playing top level bowls. Inaugural Australian Indoor Ladies Champion, Di is currently a Queensland State Selector
